Winter is quiet, spring is soccer schedules, and then late summer arrives and the same two-mile stretch of the city, from Chumash Park down through Whizin Market Square and out to Liberty Canyon, does most of the heavy lifting. This is the stretch where the neighborhood earns the affection it gets from people who have lived here for twenty years.
I have been paying close attention this season because three separate storylines are converging on that corridor at once: a free Sunday concert series with a genuinely good lineup, a wave of turnover along Agoura Road and inside Whizin, and a landmark project finally putting a date on the calendar after four and a half years of construction. Any one of those alone would be worth writing about. Together, they make the next ninety days the most interesting stretch of the local year.
The Sunday You Should Not Skip At Chumash Park
The City of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services and the DIY Home Center present the 2026 Summer Concerts in the Park at 6 p.m. on Sundays, free of charge, all at Chumash Park, 5550 Medea Valley Drive. If you have been here a while, you know the drill: low chairs, a blanket, food trucks, kids weaving through the grass.
What is different this year is the July 5 show. The lineup is Disco Inferno, followed by a patriotic drone show, which is a notable departure from the usual firework-and-cover-band template. If you have small kids who spook at fireworks, or dogs who spend the Fourth under the bed, a drone show at Chumash is the friendliest version of that evening you are going to find in the Conejo Valley. The rest of the season leans classic: June 14 was Skynard Reloaded, August 2 is Fortunate Son as a CCR tribute, and August 16 closes with Turn the Page, a Bob Seger tribute.
What Is Actually On At The Canyon This Summer
Down the hill at The Canyon, 28912 Roadside Drive, the summer calendar is dense and, unusually, not entirely tribute nights. A quick read of what is worth putting on your phone:

The Poncho Sanchez date is the one I would flag for anyone who does not usually think of The Canyon as a jazz room. A Grammy-winning Latin jazz bandleader on a Saturday night, five minutes from your driveway, is the kind of thing you would drive to Hollywood for and complain about parking. The Agoura Road Corridor Is Quietly Turning Over
While the concert calendar has been getting attention, the retail and restaurant strip along Agoura Road and inside Whizin has been reshuffling in a way that is easy to miss if you are not driving it every day.
The most consequential move is at Kanan and Agoura. Malibu Brewing Company anticipates opening in spring 2026 at 29281 Agoura Road, at Kanan, in the former Tavern Tomoko and Ladyface Alehouse location. If you were a Ladyface regular, that address has been dark for a while. A working brewery going back into that footprint matters for the whole corridor, because it also anchors the food and beverage side of Reyes Adobe Days later this fall.
At the same time, smaller openings have been filling in the edges. Azuki Boba and Tea is now open in the Agoura Meadows shopping center near Vons, CVS, and Italia Deli, its second location after the North Ranch Shopping Mall at 3835 East Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Inside Whizin, Sunrose opened this fall in Whizin Market Square and offers a modern take on classic California flavors with brunch served all day and a full menu after 10 a.m.. That is on top of the anchors that have been steady for years, from Basta at 28863 Agoura Road, Café Bizou at 30315 Canwood Street, and Hatch Café and Market at 30651 Thousand Oaks Boulevard. The pattern, if you squint, is Whizin quietly turning into the city's daytime food hall while Agoura Road handles the evening.
The 210-Foot Bridge That Is Almost Done
The last piece of the corridor story is the one everyone can see from the freeway. The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing in Agoura Hills is scheduled to open on December 2, 2026. Project leaders confirmed that date at an Earth Day press conference this spring, and it is holding.
A few numbers worth knowing, because they change how you tell out-of-town guests about the thing. It spans 10 lanes of the 101 Freeway and uses 26 million pounds of concrete. The $92 million vegetated bridge is roughly 210 feet long, built to help mountain lions, bobcats, foxes and coyotes cross safely. And it is not just a slab: approximately 5,000 native plants are being installed atop the bridge, including California aster, purple sage, hoaryleaf ceanothus, narrowleaf milkweed, bush sunflower, and scarlet bugler. If you want to see it before the December ribbon cutting, docent-led tours are available by reservation ahead of the official opening through the project's website.
There is a practical wrinkle for anyone who lives near Liberty Canyon. The northbound 101 on-ramp at Liberty Canyon has been subject to extended 24/7 closures during final-phase construction, so if that is your ramp, keep an eye on the city's project page rather than trusting your usual route.
The First Weekend Of October Is The Pivot
If summer ends with the August 16 concert, fall starts with Reyes Adobe Days. The City of Agoura Hills presents the 22nd Annual Reyes Adobe Days: Night at the Adobe on Friday, October 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at 30400 Rainbow Crest Drive, with live music, craft beer, wine, food, and local artisans at the historical site. It is a 21-and-over evening and, at $20 in advance, one of the better-value nights on the local calendar.
Two mornings later, the RAD Run Reyes Adobe Days 5K takes place Sunday, October 4 at 9 a.m., on a previously certified flat and fast course, starting and ending at Whizin's Market Square, 28914 Roadside Drive, with a percentage of proceeds going to the Malibu/Lost Hills Search and Rescue Team. If you have kids under ten, the kids' mile that follows is the friendliest 5K-adjacent race in the area. Worth understanding what the Adobe actually is, too: the Reyes Adobe Historical Site at 5464 Reyes Adobe Road represents the first home built in Agoura Hills, in 1850, built by Jose Paulino Reyes and preserved by the City since 1983 as a museum and cultural center.
The neighborhood story this year is not any single one of these things. It is that Chumash Park, The Canyon, the Agoura Road corridor, Whizin Market Square, the wildlife crossing, and the Reyes Adobe all sit inside about two miles of each other, and all of them are peaking in the same ninety days.
What To Actually Do With All Of This If You Live Here
A useful way to think about the next three months is to pick one anchor per category and let the rest fill in naturally. One free Sunday at Chumash, either July 5 for the drone show or August 16 for the Seger closer. One ticketed night at The Canyon, and if you are choosing on musical merit rather than nostalgia, the Poncho Sanchez date is the pick. One meal at whichever of Sunrose, Basta, or the new Malibu Brewing you have not tried yet. One tour of the wildlife crossing before it closes to the public in December. And the first weekend of October blocked out for Reyes Adobe Days, either the Adobe evening on Friday or the 5K on Sunday, or both.
